Contemporary Dance Theatre

Piece of Iona on stageThe NMSU Contemporary Dance Theater is a performing company for our students majoring and minoring in dance. We produce several concerts per year, each with its own theme. The company also has a touring program that offers workshops and performances for public and private schools, senior citizens organizations, and Head Start Centers. Our performance program includes many styles of choreography including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Tap. The company has the opportunity to work with National and International guest choreographers and teachers. Company members are also encouraged to choreograph and audition dances for the Contemporary Dance Theater repertory.

We also participate yearly in the American College Dance Festival that is held at different universities. This is an incredible experience for aspiring dancers to study with master artists from all over the United States and abroad.

Audition Process

Contemporary Dance Theater auditions are conducted by various dance faculty and staff. The audition will be approximately 2 hours and will include warm-ups, center work, and dance sequences.
