Dr. Backlund has a PhD in Counselor Education and currently teaches DanceSport in the Department of Kinesiology and Dance Education (KIND) at NMSU. His dissertation focused on the multiple venues through which children acquire sexual knowledge and their relationship to subsequent adult sexual self-esteem. He is currently teaching DanceSport and working on on a collaboration with the Counselor Education Department at NMSU to create a dance therapy certification.
